European Car Sales Down by 7.1% but Ireland bucks the trend!

Statistics released by the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) have revealed a slump in EU car sales. January 2012 has shown a fall of 7.1% across the 27 country bloc when compared with the same period in 2011.

Ireland, however, has bucked the trend and reported figures show a slight increase of 1.5% in sales. This translates as 21,313 new cars on Ireland’s roads in January.

Spain has also shown strong automotive sales growth, with new registrations there up by 2.5%. However, other countries mired in the Eurozone crisis have not fared so well. Car sales in Greece have fallen by 13.3% while Portuguese sales have shown the sharpest decline and have plummeted by 47.4%

Double-digit drops were also recorded in France (-20.7%) and Italy (-16.9%).

New registrations in Germany were down slightly by just 0.04% and car sales in the UK have shown no chance since 2011.
